Locomotive #23 4-4-0 was originally #29 (re-numbered in 1905). She was the last locomotive purchased by the WM from the Grant Locomotive Company of Paterson, New Jersey (there were eight Grants in total on the roster). According to Edson she entered service in June 1882, continuing until August 1809 when she was retired and scrapped by the company.

Locomotive #33 was built by Baldwin and delivered in May 1884. She was renumbered to #73 in 1905. Retired in June 1916, sold for scrap.

Thanks...I think I have a copy of the #33 as well. I've been on a WM bender of late...early locomotive shots are tough to come by. I suspect there are quite a few up at the WM historical society, but where's the fun in that?

I've go a large framed photo of Baltimore & Cumberland #9 later WMRR #9 hanging on the wall in my office - lousy framing job, too.......

Number 37, a 4-4-0, was the only center-cab to operate on the WM (acquired with the Hanover Junction, Hanover & Gettysburg). Built by Baldwin and delivered in March 1884, rebuilt by the WM in 1892 and classified as a D-7 in the WM scheme, she was renumbered as #50 in 1905, retired in October 1925 and scrapped by the company. Emory Grove was a summer camp/resort affiliated with the Methodist Church, located in Glyndon, Maryland. There's a nice station there (now a USPS office), and many of the camp buildings remain, now privately owned.

Looking back at my copies it turns out almost all are RPPC's; I've cropped the boarders off some to not waste space when I re-sized them for here.

Number 37, a 4-4-0, was the only center-cab to operate on the WM....

Thanks for that info - I was wondering about that apparent anomaly....thought it might have been an acquisition for the R&P.

I saved the photo's for a possible project down the road. Pictures of WM's earliest equipment is tough to come by, but RPPC's seem a good source if you can find them.

Same story for a lot of CVRR stuff - engines are not too hard to track down, but anything else can be difficult. The Laughlin RPPC's of the CVRR are beyond my budget these days, and I have not seen very many recently.

Had me momentarily stumped on this one, then realized 4-4-0 #20 was renumbered #21 in the 1905 renumbering scheme. Built in 1881 by Baldwin, retired in 1914, disposition unknown.

The original #21 was a Mogul, renumbered as #204 in 1905 and retired/sold in 1907.

Really nice photo of #21 the second (or first, depending on how you look at it)...
