Where do you get metal Athearn archbar trucks?

Swap meets, shows like Chicago, eBay, and my trucks parts bin drawer.....and I'm starting to run dry of them myself.

Check out the top of these box cars. Some have the corner roof walk boards and some do not. Fascinating.

Phil, that's fabulous.
Note the steel car mixed in with the various wood and composite stock on the passenger train to the left.
The roofs on these freight cars suggest roof end platforms around the the BW and opposite corner were optional until some magic moment of honerous regulatory interference from ....(my money's on).. the USRA?

I saw that too Roger, I love those way long gone "fallen flags" reporting marks. Curious if the freight in the foreground is off the B&O with that BR&P car prominent, then again there are cars from all over here.

Great photo!!! Lots and lots of very interesting details and a large variety of cars packed in there.

That Florida East Coarst car with the ventilated door (louvered??) with the guy moving lumber out of it is one I wish I could find a picture of all by itself. DL&W Ice Car...... Look like another ventilated door car down at the one end.... And just about every car has a different roof style, too. Some metal end cars mixed in. Those tell-tales over the passenger cars are a neat detail.

Loading/unloading lumber into/from a box car looks like a tedious task.
Do I see a lumber yard in the background? Is the man going to carry every stick over to the lumber yard or does he have a cart out of site?
Looks like the rail yard is paved in cobblestones.

One sharp eyed Shorpy reader comments, "The brick paving and the variety of railroads represented leads me to believe these are what were known as "Team Tracks," or "Public Tracks," meaning cars (mainly boxcars) were spotted on them for loading and unloading by shippers using their own "teams" (as in teamsters) without railroad employee assistance."

Interesting clips on the ends of the roof ribs on a couple of cars.

This one is just a little on the rough side, and also qualifies as a door stop solely by weight. I think their might be an entire sash weight inside it.













Then again, maybe this one is waiting to be put to use as scenery.....

I'd call it a very credible effort at a MOW car. That type of car has always been one of my favorite things. ALL very nice stuff Rufus.

To amplify Sarge's break dust warning, one is better of NOT breathing any kind of dust or dirt.

Most of the trains I recall seeing back before the PRR went away were ALL made up from various sundry roads. Plenty of 40' boxcars, hoppers, and single dome tank cars from all liveries. I liked the boxcars best as they were most colorful. Rolling art.

Yes and photos can be found that show the variety of height of the same type of cars.

In the late 1940s and early 1950s, I'm sure you know, box cars would show considerable variation.

Also during this time, I think, other types of cars were just starting to show diversity in appearance.
