Nice find Rufus. If that's the building between the new trolley barn and the and the EBT shop its foundations are now almost completely obscured by a dense thicket of stinging nettles. Twenty years ago you could still get pics of the pit and bearers for the stationary steam engine and its large flywheel.

I really stumbled across this postcard; popped up while I was flogging about looking for more Laughlin cards.

I probably should have bought this one as well -- nothing left now that's in that photo....

But, I can tell you that scene could very well have been not all that long ago right down the lane from my place in PA.

Not a Laughlin RPPC, but an interesting scene that shows the bracing and framing that was used to build this bridge. Not entirely sure which bridge this is but it reminds me of the one that's still in Scotland, Pa.

Might make something interesting for some one to model!

I live near Savannah,GA and am always amazed when I hear people from,for lack of a better term,up east visiting in Savannah and oooohing and aahing over the old buildings.I have been to that up east area and there are many more buildings in that area of equal or older age that have been in continual use for 300+ years.Many old buildings in Savannah were torn down before preservation hit and many were in very poor condition for quite some time.One of the strongest preservation forces has been the Savannah College of Art and Design [SCAD] that bought buildings that were falling down and renovated them for use by the college.Now some are unhappy that SCAD pays little or no taxes on educational buildings that were before SCAD nothing but smelly eyesores.
SCAD has been involved in the renovation of the Roundhouse Museum and of other raiload buildings.

Having been there and seen all that myself, Roger, the local folks have no idea how good they have it that SCAD is so active in preservation and then putting those same building back into use.

You can drive through the Main St tunnel under the bridge in the Google Streets camera car, if the camera on the roof clears the tunnel ceiling that is.

It went under OK. Lucky the tunnel has a high arched ceiling. If you turn the camera up to veiw the ceiling while in the tunnel you will see a lot of big cracks.

Cumberland Valley Railway crossed the Conococheague Creek inside Pennsylvania...barely...about halfway between Warfordsburg, Penn, and Clear Spring,. Maryland. Stone Bridge Cemetery is about a half mile south east of the site of the bridge.
