Looks like there are traces of the track the caboose is on to the left of the wagon.

Note the difference in size between the wagon horses and the horse standing by the end of the depot. Could that be a result of perspective or is the small horse a child's pony?

Looks like muddy flooded track to me. Objects could be perspective, or possibly just the camera itself. I doubt the photographer had the camera lens stopped down to f11 or f16 to get the greatest depth of field.

So do I. Somewhere I think I may have a slightly different angled photo, but I'll have to dig that out. There are very, very few photos of any rolling stock; most pictures at the time were of steam engines and stations. According to Westhaeffer, there are no known clear photos of any CVRR freight car - Westerfield sold an X23 boxcar with CVRR decals, and I have little doubt that the CVRR had some on roster, but I have never been able to fine a supporting picture.

What I said about the camera was in jest. Obviously, stopped down metering was not involved back in those days, as it wasn't invented yet. But let us re-examine the photo. I'm relatively sure that I can see the shadow of the caboose tracks from the car to the left side of the photo, and yeah, it's definitely a bobber caboose as it's easy to see the single axles on each end. It could be an early spring or fall pic as it appears to be very muddy, (look especially in the foreground), and check out the guy walking toward the building, (the guy that looks like he has 3 arms); he appears to be wearing knee high boots. Possibly the caboose was dropped there on a siding while switching some cars to businesses. I'd seriously doubt it's there for display purposes.

Found the picture and it was taken on July 27, 1906. Some writing about this being another bad storm just like the previous day.

The guy with 3 arms is 2 guys right next to each other.

Still looking for my other pictures of CVRR cabooses; I know I have another of an ND and one of a N5.

Indeed.

I have been regularly lobbying SMR to import the Pioneer but to also make me a 2nd one in a pseudo-kit for such that I can convert it into the Jenny Lind. Finding a few different picture of the Jenny Lind however have proven difficult. I have more pictures of the Pioneer that I need to building that engine, and it's in Baltimore now, so a short hope up 95 to check it out first hand.

I have nowhere near the space that to model that short stretch of the CVRR. I just have a little layout with the objective of just capturing the feel of that area. Maybe after I retire I'll be able to re-capture the rest of my basement and do a better job of pursuing that theme.

How much time did you have in constructing Lauthers'? I often wonder if I wouldn't find as much satisfaction in such projects than constructing a large layout with the feeling that it may never get finished. Than there is also the possibility that I may switch gauges half way through.
