"D*mned impertinent", I thought to myself. ....

Naw, that wasn't it. The deer probably heard about you or knew you well from watching you and knew dernwell, you'd do it no harm. Animals know the hearts they can trust.
(See, Tramp said the same thing - they all have heard about you.)

BTW. The attitude on that cat's kisser is flawless. She's looking straight at you and saying, "Surely, you know I am not impressed by those things over there. But don't worry, I am watching out for you, bub."

P.S. Aren't those leaves in the foregrond some of their favorite munchies - nice of you to put out some treats for 'em.

Tramp:
Pete, I'm sure you know deer become hypnotized by headlights. If you'd shut of your lights, it would've run off, unless it just needed a hug and had heard about you.

Ohmigod, the innocent naiveté of the city-dwellers...

Just pitiable.

Guess you guys are going to have to learn the hard way.

I'm heading out now, with my 30-30, to make sure they aren't chewing through the telephone wires.

I'll sleep without guilt, knowing you two pollyannas were well warned...

Tramp,

I saw it more years ago than I care to think about. To the best of my memory: Mr. Majestyk (Bronson) was a melon grower (I think the first name was Vincent) whose only desire was to harvest his melons, and he gets entangled with a bunch of bad guys. I don't recall the exact plot, but there was the usual quantity of mayhem and destruction involved in the typical Bronson action flick, and of course Bronson had some kind of military credentials making him an early version of "Rambo".

The one other thing I do remember is a yellowish/orange or orange-ish/yellow Ford pickup that was owned my Majestyk that did amazing things. There was a Ford commercial at the time that used clips from the film with the obligatory "don't try this at home" type disclaimer.

I've never had the desire to watch it again, so I guess I didn't think it was anything all that special. I'm sure there's more out there if you google it. If I wanted to watch old Bronson films, it would be down the list a bit.

Many thanks, and add my best wishes to all the fathers among us.

I'll have to admit that there have been far more wonderful days than bad ones, so far!

Hobos

If I could indulge you to hoist one, blow a whistle or just remember in your prayer a fellow hobbyist's family today. George passed away on Friday of a heart attack. George introduced me to Jim's Train Shop, was a fellow train nut and most importantly a husband, father, and grandfather. I haven't seen George in a while and his passing a surprise.

Here's to you George. All the whistle and horns on Kodiak Junction were sounded in your honor but the trains stood still.

Marty,

Nice tribute to George.

Hobos,

My #2 son knows I like BMWs so he presented me with this Father's Day Card. I thought I would share it with y'all.

I'm pretty sure George did not post on any online forums.

Here's the column that attempts to define American cool. This one wasn't easy to write. As I told my editor, I made about 22 cents an hour writing this thing.
