If you right click the word "Image" in the OP, then click on "properties" you get this:

http://www.shorpy.com/files/images/14708a.preview.jpg

Then you need to copy/paste that URL into a new browser window to see the image.

The webmaster of the Shorpy site has disabled direct linking to images, it seems. But after you do the above steps, your computer will save the image in cache, and if you refresh the page, the photo appears, until the next time you open the post.

Did Thomas Edison finance or "drive" THE FIRST DC SUBWAY ?

If not, then I have four more dumb and dumber questions

Did they run it for congress on low voltage AC or DC ?

If LO-V AC , how many watt LIONEL transformers were required ?

If it operated on AC/DC, did it also have battery "back-up" to reverse direction ?

If so, what's the UPS (uninterruptible Power Supply) battery voltage ?

That overhead electrical contact system on the ceiling of the tunnel in the last picture looks like those three trolley rails are supported from 600 volt or higher voltage class insulators; quite different from the first picture which looks more like those structural overhead rails that support the wheels of a moving industrial crane which is usually powered from a lower voltage power source such as 240 or 208/120 volt AC.
