Trolley Photos

Postby Jim K » Thu Mar 23, 2017 11:06 am

Howdy,

A friend of mine who knows my recent interest in trolleys (about10 years) sent some old photos from
another train site where he is a member. They are offered up occasionally by another member. Thought
they might be of some interest here. If this isn't the correct place to post these let me know and I'll adjust.

Thanks

Jim K

Thanks!

Like those photos of the single end differential dump car!

Jim,
I am not a trolley modeler and do not have a lot of trolley material of any kind, BUT I really enjoy seeing trolley photos, real or model.
Please post more when you have them.

Howdy Roger,

Here are a few I posted somewhere else ( I got lost) including two newer ones (1945 and 1952) from my hometown of Cleveland.
The first one is from 1952 and shows a unit coming up from where the tracks ran beneath the High Level Bridge showing above
and behind the car. A very early memory I have is being mighty scared when the trolley would go from the nice daylight down
under the bridge and then into the Terminal Tower. I can still remember the sparks flying away from the overhead on occasion.
My Dad loved to sit in the rear seats so as to see those sparks!

later.............

We had nowhere near the diversity or complexity in the Wheeling,WV area.
I think our trolleys did their last runs in 1946. Not sure about that.
I was only 12 years old but it didn't take long for me to miss them.
Those nice, new, pretty buses just didn't smell right. The bus drivers
were not nearly as friendly as the motor men. I sort of understood
that. It was harder to drive a bus through traffic than a street car.
The line ended in a small town south of my hometown, Bellaire, OH.,
and I could ride to the end and help turn the seats for the return
trip and usually only pay a one way fare of five cents.
I still miss them. :(

Those two buildings on the right are still in existence, the closer one has been converted to a "multi-use" facility; businesses on the first floor, residences above. The farther one is a neat shape that is somewhat "distorted" in this view; it really is quite large. We see only a corner of it, the the long sides are at an angle to the photographer.
