The first book I bought on trains back in the late 70s when I joined TCA was Lionel: A Collector's Guide and History, Volume I: Prewar O Gauge
by Tom McComas and James Tuohy

It would be tough to find someone that had a bigger influence on the three-rail O-gauge toy train hobby over the last 4-5 decades. He was a heck of an ambassador and, fortunately, he leaves behind a massive body of work, nearly all of which is terrific.

Condolences to his family.
