A renewed sense of finality here...I've lost a few college friends in the last few months and suddenly I'm feeling very mortal, lol. No time like the present so get cracking!

Scaling everything will be critical...that bridge is a freakin' monster. I think it will be a challenge to make the layout not look like a model of a bridge with a couple loops of track tacked on at each end. The overall length of the layout and the mill at one end should go a long way toward balancing things a bit. Can't wait to see it...

In thinking about it, the mill on the eastern end helps significantly; the Weirton Steel area is 3x bigger than its previous representation. Also, Steubenville on the western end will also contribute to a sense of proportion; it's larger as well. But you are absolutely correct when you say that scaling will be critical. The total bridge length is 12' against a layout length of 39.5'. And the fact that 5' of the bridge are below the track level should also help. My focus is on making the Weirton approach more about the landscape (flood plain, foliage, line poles, track side detail, the stone arch) than the span. It's a neat area that has caught my eye because of the expeditions.

That'll be the day. Better yet, climb into your car and make a road trip to Western PA.
