Weekend Photos - 4/21/17
Re: Weekend Photos - 4/21/17
I looked up the old Revell 1/48 kits. There is a red Mobil Gas tanker and a Ford Pickup Truck with motorcycle cop and a Chevy stake truck. Whish those got re-issued.

Yes, I had the red Mobil gas tanker truck, but it mysteriously disappeared.
I went to the York bandit meets yesterday and found a 1:48 plastic airplane model kit - TBM-1C Avenger. I plan to suspend a line of 1:48 airplanes along the wall opposite the layout. This will make a worthy addition to the line-up.

There are a lot of nice kits in 1/48 scale and the late WW2 and 1st/2nd generation jets are reasonably sized. By the time you get to the Century series fighters the planes are getting quite large (exception F-100 and F-104). The only modern equipment that won't overwhelm are the trainers (T-48/F-5), the F-16 and the AV8-A Harrier.

I remember Walmart selling a line of 1/48 "toy" airplanes that really were quite good; unfortunately they usually only had P-51s and Me-109s whenever I cruised the toy aisle. The package showed a Corsair or Avenger, F-104 (really wanted that one!!!!) a Zero (got one) and a few others. K-Line Aviation also had a few 1/48 planes. My real want is a 1/48 Cat, but not a kit; someday. Also one of the very, very few planes that I would like to go up in.

I remember and acquired a number of the K-Line aviation 1:48 airplanes. I think K-Line just rebranded them. I've seen them recently under the E-Z Build name? for $10-15 in hobby shops. Very similar packaging, screwdriver included, few parts to assemble, already painted (or cast) in the correct colors.
1:48 Cat? As in PBY Catalina flying boat? That would be cool.
I am interested in some of the planes shown in my father's WW II pre-flight identification training scrapbook. One of them is a J2F2 Grumman Duck (bi-plane seaplane); a company called Glencoe makes one.

1/48 scale PBY Catalina is large, really large (+100 foot wingspan).
I was wondering if that was meant to be one of the Grumman "cats" as in Hellcat, Wildcat, Tigercat, Bearcat?

I did definitely mean the Consolidated PBY. I remember seeing one on an On30 layout module with a Jacksonville,FL theme; I wish that I had taken a photo. I did ask how the Cat got there as the ramp scaled out to about thirty feet wide. Not to mention the palm trees surrounding it!! The module owner said that I was the first to ever ask that question in over the ten year period that the module had been displayed.

There is (or was) a 1/48 model of either the B-36 or B-52 available; now one of those would definitely eat up some real estate!
Re: Weekend Photos - 4/21/17
I have the 1/72 scale B-36 (Monogram) and 1/72 scale B-52 (AMT). These are still huge kits.
Real B-36 wing span is around 240', aka 5' in 1/48 scale.
There were a lot of those K-Line kits that were nowhere near 1/48. The WW2 planes probably were 1/48 but the more modern stuff was 1/72 or even smaller. Maybe the got a deal on pre-printed boxes

I don't know what role Grumman had with the PBY, but it was named for Catalina Island, according to Wikipedia.
