It seems to me there’s a seller on ebay that is trying to retire from 3 or 4 auctions <sarcasm> . $6500.00 for a scratchbuilt locomotive that has parts falling off

The Mikado might be Lobaugh lost-wax. Firebox needs re-soldering. If indeed Lobaugh and all parts are there, price is not out of line.

Sure looks like a SC Hudson. Something is amiss under the tender..not sure what right now.
Missing two axles on tender, some of those wheels look like melted Tennite.

See the All-Nation (GM?) lead truck with centering springs?

See the trailing truck with NO wheels? That big diameter one is a b*tch to find.

Might be. Might not be. IF all the parts are there...but that disclaimer that all parts provided by vendor are there.

Okay. First, it's LIVE steam. No gears, no motor.
The parts hanging out the back of the cab connect to the throttle. Might go to a servo. Might be ease-of-access.
Inside valve gear off eccentrics on axle.

I have two live steamers in #1 gauge. Trying to sell them. No takers.

Dug more into it. Had to lighten and blow up some shots.
Can motor, not original. Double u-joints, hmm. Gearbox (NWSL?) tilted back over 30 degrees, angle on driveshaft between joints severe.
Some parts look far smoother than Lobaugh.

Here's what I found:
"This is a Stevenson Preservation Lines kit for Southern Pacific 2-8-2."

So what's a partially assembled Stevenson kit worth? $850 new, all the parts, all 60 lost wax castings, hardware, WARRANTY. Gotta be careful of someone else's partial assembly.
Is all the hardware present?
We know the loco journal retainers are not installed, as the shot of the trailing truck shows the loco frame in the background with no drivers or axles.
Gotta be a shoebox of parts included. And not shown.

Bob does nice work. The original Lobaugh was a pretty sturdy model - Henry Pearce had a lot of the pieces, including 75 boilers. I believe they were spun from brass tube. There was a time when a completed one of those was in the thousands - maybe not now with Bob's kits using many of the original parts.

I wonder if it went for the full amount or if it sold for less in a best-offer deal? When I add a "buy-it-now" items to my ebay watch list, the sellers frequently email me offers that are lower than the listed price. I've accepted some of those offers and each time I ebay showed the item sold for the asking price and not the actual price I paid.

Chris, Interesting! I wasn't aware that info was forwarded/available to the seller when you "watched" one of their items. It would also be interesting to hear Feebay's motivation/rationale for showing the higher price! Wonder if they are making the seller pay commission on that higher number? I suspect they are based on the idea that the seller was NOT paying for the "buy-it-now" option!
