Let's See Some Inclined Steam Chests!!!

Seaboard had a number of older Ten-Wheelers with inclined steam chests, but I don't recall seeing many models with them. Here's a few photos:

I have a Weaver Pennsy G-5 4-6-0 chassis (Got from Ed Rappe) mounted to a homemade boiler, but it doesn't have the inclined chest:

Woah...looks like I need to add some piping to that model

I scratch-built a steam chest in brass like that for an All Nation Atlantic a few years ago. It turned out just fine. The loco is in my shop awaiting painting and some other detail changes. It is not on my high priority list for completion. If I remember correctly I was basing the loco on a B&S prototype to some extent.

Joe,

Looks like Bob Stevenson might have what I need:

Says it's for a C&NW R1 4-6-0 and others.

Uh...NO! But I lost count of how many drivers were

That would be the perfect engine if there was a straight track from coast to coast!!!

Jay,

That unpainted brass one in the foreground looks about right. Is that scratchbuilt or store bought?

Now that I really take a good look even that one is too vertical.

One USH, one PSC, one Sunset, and one Unknown but crude enough to be International. The last is probably the closest.

That's an interesting outside valve gear conversion on 641. I'm assuming 639 and 641 are from the same class.

Yes, part of the L-2 Class (620-649). According to Richard Prince's book, the inclined steam chest was suppose to help prevent condensate from flowing thru the valves and into the cylinders. None of these were ever super-heated. The L-2 class was designed for passenger service with 63" drivers. I couldn't find anything on why the use of different valve gear.

I am always a bit late, but here is one I really like. The PRR oddball 2-6-2 class J28. Note the non-belpair firebox and straight boiler along with the 80" drivers. It just looks good to me. I'd like to make this one some day.
