It seems to me that most tank cars are owned by oil or chemical companies or are part of lease pools. Further, I want to say that most of the tank cars I have seen lettered for railroads are maintenance, usually water or diesel fuel. Anybody have any information on this? I know many or most model railroaders wouldn't much care, but I would hesitate to run a car that never left it's home railroad in some other railroad's consist. Jim

Jim, The PRR had tank cars lettered "Pennsylvania". The ones I've seen were basic boxcar red (under all the crud - see image) and single dome. Not sure if they ever made it out of Pennsy turf. Sunset did some in brass.

The most prototypical model coupler...and so easily identifiable because it isn't.

and coming out dead center at the bottom...instead of off the end beam to one side with an angle ****..but then, where else can you recycle scale sized 1956 Cadillac front suspension coil springs, a can of gold paint, and a half dozen coat hangers to hide a prototype coupler?

The lettering says "Return to oil mixing plant at South Fork". That makes me think the prototype was used to distribute lubricants around the system, and would not likely wander off the home road.

Note that the original car from Alexander had a wrapper (printed for "Texaco") instead of paint and decals. It is rare to find one at all much less in good shape. Nice model, given that it's wood-dowel car from the 1930s.

I like that...and I may have one iteration of that. One of the hallmarks was the end beams were not straight across. I suppose there is a prototype for that, but MOST cars I have seen were straight.

Sort of makes sense as the angled one widens the space between the cars a bit so the ends of the tank are a bit farther away from a potential collision. Not sure if that is correct, but it sounds good!

Lettering is the standard Champ decal - matches the sets I have for PRR TM8 cars.
