Only seeing 2 items that might qualify as "doorstops".......but everything he's selling is overpriced.

You want to look at his other offerings - he uncovered a junk pile of doorstops. I love looking at this stuff . . .

It's a totally over-priced pile of CRAP. $1000        Another $1000 for that other disaster! Opinion!

I note that those doorstops are slowly coming down. What a waste of effort. Here is another - I cannot identify it, but note that it has 16 bids, and is, with shipping, now sitting at about four times what it appears to be worth.

Anyone know more about it or who made it?

Highly interesting. Open exposed reduction gears. Center supported drive shafts. VERY reminiscent of Athearn HiF rubber band drives. Except the trucks.

No big drums...in fact, no gearboxes on truck axles at all. As in, dummy unit.

Creative adaptation of dummy trucks. He could've used another rubber band for reduction, instead of gears.

What kind of journal bearings did Athearn Hi-F drive axles use?

Probably not LWS. Jan used tower drives - big can motor with a worm straight down to a gear in the truck with a chain drive to transfer to both axles. At least that's what all of he ones I've had and seen used.

I think the gear reduction box and motor indicate older, much older, and the original trucks are gone, with replacements provided. Estate Sale and grabbed loose trucks to make a complete (?) unit.

Journal bearings changed. Early straight axle, later (most) needle point. Athearn Half 0. At least that's what I recall trying to get wheelsets to fit an old Hustler.

A likely scenario.

Thanks. Needle points are what I seem to recall on my F-7, probably steel. The fat axle the rubber band went around was black plastic. I don't remember journal bearing inserts in the zamac truck sideframes. I do remember the steel drive shafts ran right on the zamac supports. They also had slippery plastic U-joints coupling to the motor shaft.

One can make neat, seriously inexpensive O gauge locos, trolleys, etc. with nothing more than rubber band drive. All you need to gear down, or up, is more pulleys and rubber bands.

With Half-0, you could not get enough gear reduction to get away from Warp Factor Three.
0, better, because the drum could be much bigger.

NEVER a serious option. Rubber bands slipped badly in Half-0, imagine the weight on 0 the engine has to pull.

I rebuild HiF drives often. Did 5 or 6 couple of years ago for one person.

Gotta to the truck ground fix or they stuttered badly.

They are not called doorstops lightly,

Some of these are so far gone that they don't even get my attention. This is one . . .

I'm not thinking single reduction, as in Hi-F drive; I'm thinking multiple reduction, using nothing more than bands and pulleys. I'll build something to see how it works, and report on the results.
