Took another look. Still not positive, but I think Wolf's tender looks a lot like the one Jay posted, and both are lots bettr looking than the 1744 tender. I think Jay is right - this was an attempt at a 120-C-1.

Wolf - the tailbeam and trailing truck are both available from Stevenson. If you put them on your locomotive, it will be a beautiful and fairly accurate model.

Bob and Jay---
Thanks for all the info, went back and tried to get another measurement of the tank diameter, and as best
I can measure (blasted ladders keep getting in the way and I don't have long enough calipers!), the tender
has a 2-1/8" tank. There are many features that are the same as the "Lost-Wax Mike" tender that Jay posted,
and I did point out what differences I saw between the two. Some differences may be accounted for by a previous
owner getting rambunctious and changing some of the details. That double row of rivets, the different frame
shapes at the front end, and those different coupler pockets still give me pause. And sorry, Bob, it doesn't
seem to have a cast bronze frame for me to discard (in your direction)

I will have to look into the tailbeam and trailing truck from Stevenson, although I have several of his kits
(including the 2-8-2 and 0-6-0 re-issues) that are in the queue ahead of any changes to this loco.
Take care,
Wolfgang

Well, Wolf, look in that kit for the parts. You will see they are vastly different from what you have.

Not sure, but I believe no SP Harriman Mike ever had a different trailing truck arrangement - the only variation is whether the equalizing beam was inside or outside of that open framework.

When you get the parts in hand, I have some suggestions on how to proceed. I am sure you can order more from Bob.

This is the 1937 catalog locomotive. We think Gerry Whit built it - note, first, that he added rivets. Then, check out the tail beam area. I am sure he carved it by hand, as I did my first couple of models.

The Lobaugh kit came with a caricature of the Hodge trailing truck, but CLW and Stevenson have made superb lost-wax trucks.

Were all of SP's Vandy tenders oil types?

No. The 2-10-2s came with special cabs and tenders. Most were converted to oil.

Somewhere back in this thread we posted up a few Consolidations, including a Pearce Tool version I had decorated in Erie. Dave ScaleCraft was kind enough to offer and send an Erie caboose to go with it:

The locomotive came to me in well finished and in good condition, but not running (something about the lack of a motor....). I generally don't get excited about working on a locomotive unless I have a train to pull. To me, a freight train is not complete without an appropriate caboose. So now that I have one this guy moves up in the queue. Thanks to Dave for this one!

On a related subject, I was chatting with Bob Garrelts recently. He told me was a big fan and something of an expert on the Erie. I emailed him a photo of my Pearce Tool Erie 2-8-0 and asked him if it was close to anything the Erie had (I did an on-line search and came up with nada). Bob came back and said it didn't seem to match any Erie prototype. Then, to my surprise, he said basically that he thought it looked pretty good (especially considering the model's heritage in the Hines USRA 0-8-0) and recommended that I keep it as is and run it to my heart's content. I mention this as many would sniff at the thought. Even I prefer that the model have a prototype, but I think I will get this one going, leave it as is, and run it as suggested.

Not me - I think it captures the Erie flavor perfectly. A close-up on the caboose?

Here's a better shot of the caboose as requested:

Note the coil-elliptical trucks. This guy looks like it has been around the layout a few times, but of course that's what I like.

Didn't we decide this was an All-Nation caboose?

I believe that is correct:

As best I can tell, this kit was a big seller for All Nation. This listing is from Catalog #9, which was issued around 1962-63 (as best I can tell). Note the price of $6.95. That was real money in 1963 but still cheap compared to a lot of other models.

That is quite a kit. Seems to have everything except trucks.

I do not recall if these are Walthers or A-N any more.
I have three....two in three rail, one in two rail.
I found Lionel cupolas, ordered them out (still have a spare for next one), shortened sides, frame and roof, ladders on the NP side, and cast window frames on the inside.
Not too bad...they work, and give the appearance I need without spending a lot of money.

That's funny. Now that I see the photo BIG, I see these are three with Lionel trucks and couplers...so I must have four, three in three rail, one in two rail.
