Very nice, but it looks too clean; maybe its just out of the yard? When I was working for the Corpse of Engineers on the eastern shore, I saw a skipjack with a rounded stern; wish that I had had my camera with me as it was the only one that I saw there. My first thought was that it would make a good hull for a quarter (or so) size destroyer model.

Well Dave...look close and you may be able to see subtle rusting where metal against white paint showed itself...but it is in fact right out of a refreshing courtesy of yours truly... ME...

I know your a sailor Chris so that was a thoughtful compliment. My skipjack has several omissions, but it is largely representative of a skipjack based upon the dozen of photos I studied as I went along. It was never intended to be the focus of the scene, but more a part of the overall scenery effort.

Short of putting track outside and letting it rust, your rails are the closest thing I've seen to real rust. what color or blend of colors did you use?

I am a very amatuer sailor, but I have owned 2 sloop-rigged sailboats over the years.

So I notice that the boat appears to be sloop-rigged - main and jib as opposed to a cat-rig (the mast very far forward and only one sail). Why is the there a main sail furled on the mast, but no jib? It seems like there would be both or neither to me.

Just a curious looker, providing food for thought.

It is indeed sloop-rigged Chris, and I have a few final details to add including a furled jib...I scrounged for some suitable sail material but came up short...so some jib material is on my wife list of stuff to get for me... . Your a sharp eyed sailor, and this land lover appreciates your giving my Skipjack a careful look over.

BTW did you notice my stack of mast hoops? I made those out of strips of thin wood veneer material which I soaked in vinegar overnight, and then wrapped the strips around some mast stock to set the curl prior to staining...Then the formed hoops get end glued, and slid on the mast prior to attaching the rigging. Pretty cool me thinks!

in a working boat with a large main, it would be furled and stowed on the boom, while the small jib was taken down off the headstay.
