Should'a went with TMCC, the best and easiest yadda yadda yadda. You'll be sorry, etc.

Horse manure, Mitch.

Nobody's coming for anybody. If the thing works for Jon, great! My objections to DCS are related to its so-called champions who make outrageous claims about its ease-of-use and blame all of its problems on its users. Period.

Since everyone's putting their 2 cent in here, I will too. When I decided to migrate from 45 years of HO and enter the world of O scale...2 rail obviously...I wanted to try DCC and right from the first rail being laid I made my installation DCC correct. I installed decoders each time a new engine was purchased...none of them ever came DCC equipped. I figured out programming through trial and lots of errors. I've sample decoders from several of the brands, and learned the various idiosyncrasies of each one. My engines run the way they are suppose to based upon the CV programming I select, and overall I'm satisfied with the choice I made. My system is from LENZ which today is not really mainstream. But along with learning how to install DCC, I learned how to live with my Lenz system.

The point of my post is more or less to say I think there is value in getting the layout and all the locomotives running with a single system for simplicity...if there is such a thing anymore.

Well Lenz is a high quality system...built to last...I learned the good and bad of it. They occasionally update their system and that requires I ship my setup to a supporting dealer for upgrading. Now the upgrading last time was optional as it added features, but didn't really affect the basic functionality. I choose not to ship it out for upgrading for now at least. Not having the new features is what I meant by learning to live with it

Yes I am that simple mind and that's only after seven plus decades of training.

If you get what you want and need from it, then I count that as better than living with it -- that's a success!

I am so simple of mind that I am considering moving to a quiet place under a tree to live under the name of Sanders....

I liken a lot of this kind of stuff to a perpetual case of hemorrhoids. You buy something, but you don't really buy it because of endless changes and updates which soon make the product inoperable, or at minimum a PITA to use. A great deal of this proprietary stuff is designed to be a continual meal ticket a la planned obsolescence, or the continual need to update stuff. Got to put 'Preparation H' on the shopping list.

You might want to Google the phrase, "live under the name of Sanders", as it refers to something quite different than your comment

Jon,

The Dallee site has some sound boards that they say will work with RC gear. I might have to give them a shout and see if they have anything that works with the Deltang Rx65b receivers I'm using.
