Carey,
I have seen the Thomas 0-4-0 models. All of them had brass sheet cabs (wrapper). I think the front and rear walls were pot met castings. I've been told some had cabs that were all cast. Change in manufacturing? Maybe.

No, it took me by surprise and I hadn't completely figured out what happened until I read this post. As soon as I chose to pay by PayPal,
Ok, so it still stops for you to choose how to pay then?
Every time I use Buy It Now, the sale process still stops for me to choose how to pay.
I expect nothing and I’m still let down.

I don't know Martin, really not willing to spend money running that experiment. You've seen my wife, I think she can take me two out of three falls.

Next time I see a small item that I need to complete a project, I'll test it.
I expect nothing and I’m still let down.

Last night it took several clicks to buy tires. First click tires. Second click would you like to continue shopping. 3 click method of payment 4 click confirm and pay.
I spend entirely too many hours a day tying my shoes

Hello Jay and the rest of the world
Thomas offered the little 040 for about 10 years being manufactured in NJ, OK and TX.....so a very good chance that changes were made along the way .
The little 040 was introduced early in 1948 ... below ad from February 1948 with cast Zamac cab ...the following year May 1949 the Consolidation was introduced also with the Zamac cab ...... the earlier posting illustration was from a Thomas catalog made 50's when operation had been moved to OK ..no mention of a Zamac cab .... so perhaps later they shifted to the brass cabs .
Cute little engine ..this one freshly picked from the parking lot sales of York PA ... cast cab does look a bit over powering .... ad an engineer and fireman of corpulent proportions the the little engine could become a 0-2-0 tail dragger .
The Thomas 040 's seem to be plentiful in the world .... Consolidations much more elusive ( so far) .
Cheers Carey

Now you did it. I'll start throwing up Mantua 0-4-0's in tank and tender variants, Mantua 0-6-0, and the John A. English 0-4-0 Yardbirds, just for grins.

Probably worth a little bit of money now, along with that Berk(?) that Athearn offered years ago.

Yes, but they have to be O Scale or 17/64. My 0-4-0 is in fact 17/64.

Nope. I actually measured the venerable Mantua Shifter, converted all to 17/64, and started hammering on brass. I had HO as a kid - the only thing left to duplicate is a Dockside. Oh, and those Ulrich gons. If I hold my breath . . .
Re: Here's another "deal and a half".........!!!!!
I like this one except for the honkin' big connection to the tender! A bit more recent, but not that much!
