Had a similar "ignorance experience" with a utility marking guy in the past few days. And he proved out what I've seen a lot in the past 5-10 years. Ignorant people, are secure in their ignorance and will defend it to the Nth degree.
We had a modification made to our front yard irrigation, so the contractor calls USIC, the local "Call before you Dig" company around here. Long story short, the marker guy marked the line last Friday, but did our neighbors property, missed ours, so our telephone/internet cable was cut.
I saw him walking the property yesterday before the irrigation guys were done and I told him he marked the property wrong and the cable was cut. He says "I didn't mark it wrong". The supervisor for the irrigation crew was listening too and we both just looked at each other. It wasn't the answer we expected.
So, I pointed to the painted lines and flags in the lawn that he placed on the neighbors property and even to an orange "X" he put on the ground on our property to denote no signal there, which happened to be right on top of the cable. Again he said "I marked it right" that was a false signal. So, I then asked why was the cable cut. He continued to defend, so I dropped it and walked away.
I see so much of this ignorance in today's world.
