The house was built by Alex Hayford who owned the local railroad and mayored the town. At the same time he also built the Hayford Block downtown which contained an opera house. The house looks about the same now as it did in 1866, still has the triple slate sinks the kitchen, hand-stenciled ceilings, white marble fireplaces, etc. It was renovated in 1902 when they added hot water heat, electricity, and so on. Since then not much has happened to it besides my gradual repairs and restorations. All the roofs are finally sound, the rot has been removed in the few places it had crept in, window glass fixed, etc. It's still rather rough but since I do almost everything myself it takes forever. I'm rather proud of fixing the porch as one end was pretty much gone and I had to make all the moldings to match the ones that had remained undamaged. The side in the photo I've been repainting for ten years and it's still not finished. Like building a model railroad, I doubt I'll ever finish it.

A liitle digging (Excuse the pun "dirt") revealed the answer to the mystery. But not to the moniker. "Dirt"? Or rather, "The Dirt"? Porquet?LOL

Hope all is well with all the usual suspects. Beautiful house, Tramp, but I knew as much from past reports by "The Dirt" on the Hardwood Central RR.

So, it looks like all the 'Bos are ready for the Big 4th Celebration, with the beer and barbecues all ready to go, and WTF am I doin? I'm building cabinet doors for the bathroom. 10 f&*king doors, only 4 of which are the same size. Never again will I ever do laminated cabinets and doors. Bad enough doin' the cabinets, but the doors are extremely labor intensive. 'Ya need to measure the inside opening of the cabinet in length and width, then subtract 1/8" in both directions for the clearance around and the hinges, cut them out perfectly square, then cut strips of laminate 7/8" wide, put the contact cement on both pieces, wait for it to set, then stick it together. After properly set up, run the laminate trimmer on both sides to get the exact fit on the edge of the door. You now have 1 edge of 1 door done. Repeat for the other 3 edges, then it's off to the router table to put the 3/8" rabbit all around the door, and this has to be done very slowly or the laminate will chip. (Ask me how I know). Then measure for the hinges and install them. Then up to the bathroom for a trial fit, then back to the router table for some fine tuning, then a second refit, and if all is well, back downstairs to put the laminate on the face and back, then back to the router table for the final trim. I'll guaran-f&*king_tee when she wants new kitchen cabinets, they'll be done in REAL wood,(not plywood), then I'll shoot 3 coats of water-based polyurethane on with a light sanding between 1st and 2nd, and 2nd and 3rd coats, and they'll look like glass, will clean up easily, and will last the rest of our natural lives, (which won't be long for her if she wants the kitchen cabinets laminated).

And yes, in case anyone was wonderin', I am drinking beer and operating power tools!
