Back to Scotland and digging in the dirt............could be another interesting scene for Murph or anyone else to model. Think about that area where you did not bother to lay track and put a "mountain" in place. Could put in a great scene of excavating out a cut for a future extension of to...............

Quite probably.
I like this scene quite a lot. You can see the terracing of the cut here and how this was all being done by hand carting everything away on those horse and mule drawn wagons. You earned your pay moving dirt and stone those days. I spent a couple of summers (and some winter time) mastering the use of an idiot stick, e.g., a stick with a shovel, rake or pick at one end and an idiot at the other. While educational at one level, the primary lesson learned was this not a form of long-term employment for me.

This is interesting. The loco has link and pin coupling and seems to be on a
run around shoo-fly track to by-pass where the shovel is working.

I may have a picture of that small engine on a card - I'll see about digging it up,

I saw a program on TV about digging the Panama Canal. They had a video of steam shovels loading railroad cars. They moved fast, dig swivel dump and repeat.

No idea. I never heard of this place when I was young nor ever saw anything like it. Probably all gone a long time ago...
