And, this may not be all that significant to the people there.

Unlike the US where beef is what's for dinner, much of the rest of the world's dinner does not revolve around beef and is quite infrequent.

In many places around the world the people are lucky if they can even get one meal a day and it's what ever they can get their hands on. Without that grain from Russia and the Ukraine a lot of people in Africa will probably starve :(

From what I have been reading Calif produces about 40% of the veggies for this country and the fields are empty because they don't have the water for them. Lake Mead is almost down to dead pool and when that happens they stop producing electricity.

Which only reinforces my point - beef is a luxury item in much of the world; costly to raise, etc. We could grow much more wheat and other grains but we choose not to so as to keep prices high.

Lots of other states produce a lot of veg, and a lot more could be grown but again we choose not to. Hydroponic "factories" may be the future.

Drought out west is a real ongoing problem.

My wife’s country eats very little beef. In most cases if you eat pork you grow it yourself . Some neighbors may grow on for you. Beef to them is a true luxury. Some day i’ll tell the story about the first steak i made her

High gas prices worth it for 'future of liberal world order,’ White House economics adviser tells CNN
Americans could expect to pay high gas prices 'as long as it takes' to defeat Vladimir Putin, Biden told reporters on Thursday

White House economic adviser Brian Deese suggested the pain at the pump was a price Americans had to pay for the "future of the liberal world order," in a CNN interview on Thursday.

"CNN Newsroom" host Victor Blackwell played a clip of President Biden telling a reporter at Thursday's NATO Summit that Americans can continue to pay a premium for gas "as long as it takes" to win the war in Ukraine.

Dang..... I didn't know we were at war with Russia or buying oil from them.

Maybe we could buy some of the cheap oil from China that they are buying from Russia.

https://www.reuters.com/markets/commodi ... 022-06-20/

SINGAPORE, June 20 (Reuters) - China's crude oil imports from Russia soared 55% from a year earlier to a record level in May, displacing Saudi Arabia as the top supplier, as refiners cashed in on discounted supplies amid sanctions on Moscow over its invasion of Ukraine.

Imports of Russian oil, including supplies pumped via the East Siberia Pacific Ocean pipeline and seaborne shipments from Russia's European and Far Eastern ports, totalled nearly 8.42 million tonnes, according to data from the Chinese General Administration of Customs.

The high price of gas started on Bidens 1st day and is 100 % because of his policies.

That explains why gas is so expensive in other Biden countries like Canada, France, Guatemala and the Solomon Islands, but still cheap in countries still run by Trumpinostra leaders such as Russia, China and Candy Land.

63 percent of France’s gas price is tax. In Pennsylvania it is around 22 percent of the total cost today. $1.16.

Check out the price in Venezuela.
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles ... s-a-gallon

Even with the jump in prices, PDVSA’s subsidized fuel is still among the cheapest in the world. The increase would bring fuel prices to 2.3 cents per liter or 10 cents per gallon, a fraction of what it costs at gas pumps in most countries. It’s currently at 0.1 cent per liter or 0.5 cents per gallon.

Venezuela has a dual-pricing system, with one subsidized amount and a separate “international” price of 50 cents per liter or $2.27 per gallon.

It was stinking ahole Bidens idea to slow production of oil to force people to buy more electric cars. Gas went up $3 a gallon under Biden than when Trump was in.

Actually the slowdown in oil production had nothing to do with Biden (or Trump). There was this little thing you Republicans are in denial about, a worldwide pandemic, that led to drastic drops in the demand for gasoline and aviation fuel. That is what led to cutbacks in production long before Biden took office. OPEC has not increased production and neither have domestic producers of fuel. With the ramp up in car and air travel, there is dramatically increased demand and no increase in production, which has led to the enormous run up in costs at the pump. Not a political issue in the least. Classic supply and demand issue. Amazing how capitalism works that way ;).

Yes. Production still exceeds demand and we are a net positive producer and export oil and natural gas. If there were an actual shortage in oil production or even a need to import it, the price per barrel would be going up. It's not. And it's $30 lower per barrel than in 2008 (~$110 vs. $140). Actually dropped ~$10 per barrel today.....

The real issue is the bottleneck where refineries were shut down 2+ years ago and not brought back on line, and in some cases can not be brought back on line. Combine that with a blind rush to normalcy in demand, prices go up.

Of course, the concept of supply and demand, and understanding even a shred of economics, or even trying to understand just how things work at all regularly eludes the dimmest of entitled sheep.
