Re: Car Thread
Don't lust after a new one. MBZ, and other expensive marques, lose value like crazy (except Porsches, I suppose). Look for an equivalent (a big S-class) between 5 and 10 years old with low mileage, etc. Son recently bought a $150K + 6.3AMG coupe/convertible for about $60K. Immaculate car and a beast.

Very interesting advice, Rex. Thank you. Once my Google-check on the Maybach smacked me around with its reality stick, I wondered for a few seconds about "previously owned" options but wondered about what keeping after a car like that would be once it was off warrantee. Yet, my wife and I have such low mileage ,traditionally, on our cars (her E-class, 2012 has total of 2,000 miles, to date; my 2015 ML has only 7,200, which includes a trip to a client in Kansas from NJ, to date) that perhaps depending on the traditional longevity of Benz would supersede worry over parts wearing out? When maintenance is due (the dashboard tells us ), the cars go right in, just like the ML did today (for no charge.

I guess that makes me sound like a schmutz to some minds, but there is something to be said for sharing and not just lavishing oneself with good looking stuff.

It was just that that Maybach reminded me, somehow, of how cars used to be, like Cadillacs and Lincolns. And when I say "used to be," I am sure you know what circa I mean.
Murph, if you wax nostalgic for the days of performance cars, your frame would fit just fine in a 6.4L HEMI Dodge Charger RT, with enough horsepower and acceleration to set your eyeballs back in your head, for less than half that money. 500 HP ain't enough? Then consider the Dodge Challenger Hellcat. Supercharged 6.4L HEMI with 707 HP, for still less than half that money. On that one, your eyeballs come out through the back of your head!

The 2018 Demon makes the Hellcat look like a church mouse.
840 HP and 770 pound-feet of torque, making it the most powerful American car ever. It’s also the quickest car in the world, with an NHRA-certified 0-60 mph time of 2.3 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 9.65 seconds at 140 mph.
The 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is an absolute beast

Yeah, but it only comes with one seat. Murph couldn't take Mama out on a Sunday drive!

But when he takes a drive in the woods he is by himself. He can get away from the BEARS faster.
Re: Car Thread
I read a article about the Demon in Hot Rod magazine. There only going to make 300 of them and they will be snapped up by collectors. There really a drag race only car that you can buy brand new but has a VIN. and is street legal.
Re: Car Thread
Yes you can take Mrs. Murph for a ride
That makes it the first single-seat production car ever sold by a major automaker, but you can get the passenger seat and rear bench for $1 each, and add a 19-speaker 900 watt audio system for good measure. That is if you’re not too concerned about those last couple of tenths at the track. If you are, you’ll definitely want to order the optional Demon Crate.
The goodie box comes with that engine controller, a set of skinny front-runner drag wheels, a hydraulic floor jack and cordless impact wrench to change them with, plus a tool kit and other Demon-branded accessories to help you turn your car into an even more focused racer at the strip.
Not since the very limited edition drag racing specials of the 1960s has a major automaker sold anything quite like this car, and Dodge is unleashing 3,000 Demons on America for 2018 with another 300 heading to Canada. The price has not yet been announced, but Fiat Chrysler Head of Passenger Car Brands Tim Kuniskis says it'll be less than six figures, and it includes a day at the Bob Bondurant School of High-performance Driving.
The jack looks really nice....I wonder if I can get one through parts for a buck???????

PS: I saw a price of $86K somewhere.....get your lobotomy and join the queue!

Re: Car Thread
I've watched some of the "Barrett-Jackson Northeast" auctions on the Velocity Channel. A good number of excellent appearing muscle cars with upgraded powertrains, ignition systems, and suspensions going for way under $30K. But go figure, a 20's Indian motorcycle with sidecar went for $100,000!

Re: Car Thread
Being that the Demon is capable of running the quarter in less than 10 seconds it will have to have a roll bar installed before it is legal to run on the drag strips.

Re: Car Thread
Missed the TRAC meet this year...they changed venues and the new one is thirty-five miles east of here. Our house rule (never drive the Sprite further out than you can comfortably walk back) precludes our attendance. Maybe next year.

C'mon, Healey! If ya thought the damned car was that undependable, you'd just leave it in the shed!
