That looks like something my grandfather made about 75 years ago and was still sitting around abut 10 years ago.
My grand mother used it as paint remover and as a wood stain. It worked as both.
She also drank it.

Though dark, should it still be clear? Or is that translucent quality sought after, like a pulp-rich orange juice?

Clear? Maybe. I've had some Scottish Black Ale that was totally opaque.

It's a highly variable property - aroma and taste tend to be a wee bit more critical than others...

I don't filter my beer. Plus it is bottle conditioned. I add 3 cups of i fermented brew into the batch. Then bottle. This is how it gets carbonated. One drawback is dead yeast will cloud beer.(not a drawback to beer snobs)

Samuel Adams beer is illegal in 12 states -- and crazy expensive
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/samuel-ada ... expensive/

Foodies may not think twice about plunking down big bucks for aged beef, truffles or Japanese whiskey. And brewskies?

So Samuel Adams seems to be hoping as it prepares to roll out the latest edition of one of its beers. The price? $199. A bottle.

One other thing: These suds might be illegal in your state because of the high alcohol content, which tips the scale at a knee-buckling 56 proof (28 percent "alcohol by volume," or ABV, as it's known in the trade). The ABV for most beer is 4 percent to 6 percent.

That puts the beverage well above the ABV limit in a dozen states: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont and Washington. Supplies are limited, too -- Samuel Adams is only releasing some 13,000 bottles.

How is that even beer? The fermentation process should be killed off well before that percent is ever reached. Highest percent I've even seen available in the past caps out stretching hard to get to 20%.

I wonder how many dummies will pay $199 dollars for a bottle.

Reminds me of that insanely overpriced bagel and the hamburger in NYC......

I will admit to having a few large bottles of limited run bourbon barrel aged beers that were close to $20 per; restaurant down the road has them on their menu for triple or quad that price. That mark up is nutz.

I pushed a batch up to 14%. Special yeast. It was a Rasputin imperial stout. It turned out more like a barley wine. I could not get it to bottle condition well. Yeast got drunk and died of before it could make carbonation. Sam Adams probably takes beer and jacks it.( freeze it and pull off the ice) Now you got wondering if i have one left.
