Pfizer, Moderna COVID-19 vaccines cut infection risk by 90%, CDC study finds
The findings were consistent with results from clinical trials
https://www.foxnews.com/health/pfizer-m ... -cdc-study

Coronavirus vaccines developed on an mRNA technology, like those from Pfizer and Moderna, are "highly effective," in tamping down infections, including asymptomatic cases, according to findings posted Monday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The federal health agency examined results from a real-world vaccine rollout among nearly 4,000 at-risk essential workers, like health care staff and first responders, across six states from Dec. 14 to March 13, 2021.

Results indicated a 90% drop in infection risk after participants were fully vaccinated, or in other words, two weeks after they received second jabs developed by Pfizer or Moderna. The findings also underscored a high level of protection after just a single dose; participants’ risk of infection was cut by 80% two weeks after their initial vaccination.

Let us know how that pans out the rest of the week.

Now that I have had the second jab And no problems I have been wondering if we will have to get additional jabs in the near or long term, Not much has been said about that probably because they really don't know at the present time.

Booster shot ? Maybe

Moderna COVID-19 vaccine lasts at least 6 months, study finds
Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine also seemed to protect against the U.K. variant
https://www.foxnews.com/health/moderna- ... nths-study

BOSTON – New research suggests the protection the Moderna vaccine gives against COVID-19 lasts for at least six months.

The report Tuesday in the New England Journal of Medicine echoes what Pfizer said last week about its vaccine, which works in a similar way.

Both reports were based on follow-up tests in dozens of people who received the shots during studies that led to the vaccines’ use. Those studies were done before troubling new variants, or versions of the coronavirus, had emerged and started to spread.

A separate report in the medical journal adds to concern about the variants. Scientists measured antibodies that can block the virus in 50 people who had been given the Sinopharm or Sinovac vaccines that were developed in China. Many showed total or partial loss of effectiveness against a virus variant first detected in South Africa.

The vaccines still seemed to protect against a variant first found in the United Kingdom that is now rapidly spreading in the United States and elsewhere.

Pfizer and Moderna have said they are working to update their vaccines, or possibly design a booster shot, in case they’re needed against variants.

We'll find out, now won't we, but it seems that this sort of thing is a long-term deal.

My kids got the J&J vaccine this past Saturday. My wife and I get our second dose of Moderna on Thursday. My one sister got her second dose about two weeks ago and my other got her first dose previous Monday. Sue said she felt a little run down from the second shot for a couple of days. Doug had a "sore arm" at the site of the injection. I suggested a hot shower with direct spray on the arm and doing some stretching/arm movements to help out with the discomfort. That's what I did for the effects from my first shot.

Is this media hype, to much red tape or bad management?

a) and c) yes. b) not so much. They caught it before it got loose. This is complicated and it may not have been a good idea to have two different variants of the vaccines made in the same plant. I'm sure it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Got the second shot on Thursday morning around 8:45 AM. My arm was sore again but that was about it until late afternoon when I started feeling tired. Took a short nap and then got up to prepare dinner. After dinner I really started feeling tired and went to bed. Around 11PM I woke up and had slight chills and most of my joints were sore. I checked the sheet we were given when we got the shot and these were side effects that were listed. Had some water and went back to bed but had trouble "sleeping". The chills broke about 3AM but I was still sore and did not sleep well.

Friday I wake up with a really bad headache and realize that I am dehydrated. I drink a bunch or water and put the humidifier back on line and check the furnace filter. It needs replacement and I swap it out. A cold pack works on the headache and some black tea with lemon and local honey takes care of the sinus issues. By lunchtime I'm feeling pretty much back to normal (aka ~24 hours after the shot). I was going to take some Tylenol for the body aches but the Moderna check sheet says "check with your physician before taking any OTC medications". I am pretty sure that I read somewhere that you could use Tylenol or Ibuprofen AFTER the shot but that may have been Pfizer or possibly one of the talking heads on TV.

BTW, my wife just had a mildly sore arm. Given the potential deadliness of the disease 24 hours of mild discomfort seems to be small price to pay.

I don't know how much of the problems were my own making in terms of missing the filter replacement and not noticing Deb had turned the heat back on. The house has sufficient insulation that it can usually keep a 20 to 25 degree differentiation with the out side temp on its own. I let the blower motor run continuously to keep the temperature even and to keep cleaning the air. Ambient temp had been around 50 degrees for the last week, week and a half so I switched the HVAC from heat to "off". It wasn't getting cold enough (at least for me) at night to warrant running the furnace. I date the filters and put a mark on the calendar (about + 3 months). I need to mark my Google calendar as the last switch was made Jan 1 and the calendar I put up was replaced by a "prettier" one by my wife about two weeks later. I had forgotten about the mark and I missed the switch by about a week. My sinuses "alerted me" to the need.

Covid-19: US agencies call for pause in Johnson & Johnson vaccine
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-56733715

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said it was acting "out of an abundance of caution".

It said six cases of severe blood clotting had been detected in more than 6.8 million doses of the vaccine.

The recommendation follows similar rare cases in the AstraZeneca vaccine, which has prompted some curbs in its use.

Vaccines alone will not stop Covid spreading - here's why
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/resources/id ... da6b0acb3f

Many of us are hoping vaccines against coronavirus will be our route out of lockdown, enabling us to reclaim our old lives. But scientists say jabs alone will not currently be enough and other measures are still needed.

I had my first stab yesterday. Slightly sore arm at the injection point but nothing big. We were supposed to get the J&J but, well you know, so they resupplied with Pfizer. This was a large scale drive up UPMC clinic and it was really efficient. Definitely not run by the government. Great directions, a lot of folks working. Took me longer to drive the 10 minutes from work than to get stabbed. Waited 15 minutes and was out. Whole experience took about 20 minutes not including travel time.

Go back in 3 weeks for round 2. There were no side effects I could see, Bill Gates is my master, and I am looking forward, buy Microsift Windows, to getting on wit my life. LOL!

I had my second Pfizer shot this past Tuesday. Like Marty stated, mine went very quickly and efficiently, here in Lancaster, PA. It was the first day the PA. National Guard was assisting the vaccination process. I had no problems after the first shot weeks ago, but this second shot sure hurt for a little longer than a day. I'm glad it's over with. Course I don't know if a booster will be necessary. I'll keep wearing my mask in public. "Interesting times in which we live."

I got both from the federal CDC and it took all morning. They did a census with all kinds of questions that they didn't need for the shot.
