An interesting structure, for sure. Being built on pilings seems a good strategy for avoiding the run-off coming down that hillside. Looks like a display of the owner's hornets' nest collection on the porch (seems unlikely to be paper lanterns, but they could be).

I wonder how log it took them to get the horses and wagon hitched up and ready to go to the fire.

Probably pretty fast compared to getting the crew to the station, dressed, ready to respond.

I've had this conversation with my insurance company and the concept of the rural volunteer fire department and all that that entails seems well beyond their grasp.

I like those older looking small stations. reminds me of the ones Lionel and Flyer made out of metal back int the 20s & 30s
