I think that facial is a bit of an exaggeration. It derives from the movie 'Caligula' and possibly Fellini's 'Satyricon' used the same repulsive shot to accentuate Roman degeneracy. It strikes me as highly unlikely, right up there with vampire women bathing in the blood of virgins or come to that that old chestnut about bathing in asses milk.
