Where I taught in the late 1970s the school had four little league football teams that played each other and had a banquet and awards at the end of the season. I am not much of a sports fan but attended these games because our band boosters ran the concession stand. Since I wasn't needed in the stand at this particular time I went down to the field and was standing behind the players bench. Nothing happening in the game is important for this story. The coach turned to the bench and said"Billy, go in for George". Billy said "Me? I don't wanna go in". So the coach put someone else in. The next day I saw Billy and asked him why he didn't want to go in the game. His answer was "I don't want to play. I just want a trophy". So I asked the coach and learned that every kid that finished the season would get at least one trophy. There were many given for all kinds of strange, IMHO, reasons. I had never heard of this before.
Do I need to tell you my position on this? OK. I will. I do not like it for too many reasons to list.

Just like everything a kid does nowadays is called "AWESOME," or wonderful, or excellent. I have yet to hear a person in authority tell a kid something was nice or good or ok but needs...

I am constantly amazed at the details you guys point out, which I hadn't noticed at all, in so many of these old photos.Noting the condition of roofs in that recent photo is a fine example - I never saw anything noteworthy about them, since I often dismiss some things as peculiarities of old photo prints.
