Lots of interesting stuff; large building on the hill in the distance, train on tracks, steps by tracks- waiting/loading area(?), observation building.
Are the two sets of track connected, possibly a loop?
Thought it was interesting that during that period people would "dress up" so much to go on a picnic or visit a park to get out of town.

Think it's just a switch lower down and then another in probably a switch back arrangement.

I remember learning, quite some time ago, that the Pennsylvania Turnpike was originally cut into the Appalachians as a railroad route. OK. I believed that but always remained skeptical when taking into consideration all those hills (esp. leading up to and from the Blue Mt. and Tuscarora tunnels) and steady-climbs and descents, numerous bridges and culverts, one had to drive during the journey from Irwin, PA to Rt. 81, for example. This is the first I ever saw such a perspective of two railroad tracks so far up in the hills and seemingly going to the same places.

I have posted several RPPC's of the tunnels that had been cut near Fannettsburg and Roxbury for this RR that were then used for the PA TP at it runs through Amberson Valley between Back Mountain and the Timmons.

Yes. One "dressed" then for every occasion.

I can recall clearly my mother "dressing-up" properly for church as well as for going shopping "downtown " in Pittsburgh and/or McKeesport, or when visiting the Carnegie Museum, in Oakland, which meant she wore a freshly-ironed (it took a good hour to iron) "sun-dress" in the warmer months, complete with little jacket and white cotton gloves; she even wore that same type of outfit when we went (just a short walk away from our house) to Kennywood Amusement Park, to ride the "bumper-cars" (Skooter), Turtle, and Jack Rabbit and Racer roller-coasters. (She was a great sport!)

"Dressing-up," for me as a child, meant, at least, which shoes to wear. There were three "tiers" of shoes, all hard-leather "dress" shoes. Only the really poor kids ever wore Keds sneakers (the only kind that I ever heard of back in the 50's). I have no recollection of what was worn by guys playing pick-up basketball of football in the lots and backyards.)

The First Tier began by the purchase of a new pair, was designated for Sunday Mass, only. Once they got a bit worn and somewhat beyond redemption after numerous polishings, they were demoted to school-wear." Once this Second Tier of use got way too beat-up, they were demoted to the final level - to play use. That's when they would have holes in the soles which got pretend-resoled by slabs of cardboard, which worked for a while, esp. if you had the sense to carry a few stand-by pieces of cardboard in your pocket with you. Of course, those inserts were destroyed quickly by rain or snow, which is when the Third Tier shoes might be thrown away or donated,

My shoes were like yours except the lowest level would get half-soled by my grand father.
If they still looked half decent they went to the shoemaker and would last even longer.
I don't remember having any "Ked" type shoes until college.

Your grandfather must have really known his trade because when we had some of my shoes half-soled or newly healed, the repairs soon detached, and then got discarded. Maybe that was because I spent so much time on my hands-and-knees playing in the dirt and sand piles, at new construction sites in the neighborhood, with cars-n-trucks, so the shoes got bent a lot.
