There are quite a few rather large and imposing houses about the county.

It's been quite a spell since I was in that neck of the woods, but it was my impression that time had passed the place by (and that is NOT meant as a negative). I found the place rather fascinating.

Parts of Franklin Co. are such that if there were no vehicles present that it becomes hard to be sure of when you are.....many 200+ year old houses that recall scenes from that period. Factor in Amish and horse drawn filed equipment, you step back in time easily.

And then you are regaled with the passage of the offal trucks from the corporate pork farms up the road and snap back to current times....

I know now that I should have bought every possible adjoining available property to my own.

Yeah, and I should have bought Amazon stock when it first became available.

That's a good one. I'm writing that one down in my quotes-to-remember notebook.

It was not that I could not have bought the adjoining properties as they have come & gone in being available - just buying them to provide additional buffer from neighbors seemed a little excessive & paranoid, but the school taxes there on all that land just sitting dormant with timber would have eaten me alive.

Officials probably did ring bells in those towers , back in those days, huh. I make that conjecture because the principal, Sister Agnes-Eugene, of my Catholic elementary school, used to ring a handheld bell from atop the front stairs to our school at the start of each school-day and at the end of recess every day, signaling it was time to line-up in neat - very neat - two-by-two rows, awaiting admittance.

How the danger sinks and swells,
By the sinking or the swelling in the anger of the bells--
Of the bells--
Of the bells, bells, bells, bells,
Bells, bells, bells--
In the clamour and the clangour of the bells!

I see similarities among the printing of the identifications on the photos. Perhaps there was a style prevalent at the time (?)

Today's card is a Weiman and uses a rather large and distinctive style. The Laughlin cards have a different hand to them and have several different signatures or initials usually over in the right corners. Other that I have posted seem to be similar yet many are not as stylized as to be attributable to any specific photography studio unless that info was included on the card somewhere. Those are clear and obviously so probably were doing their best to make their names known to their customers. Laughlin appears to have succeeded rather well and the 1000's of his RPPC are cataloged and sought after with many now selling for quite a lot of money.

I like them since they are focused on an area of PA that is familiar to me and is where much of my family history resides, well, the last 300 years or so....

Not a postcard, but just a bit of whimsy...

I wonder if she has Toto in that basket? The one on the right.
