It's a Sony, but I'll have to look up the model number later or Wayne can probably find it in my picture properties. I know it's way smarter then me, but then again so is a box of hammers. While focusing the camera a question popped up on the screen asking me if I wanted to focus on the tracks. How the hell did the camera even know what I was looking at????

Oh I hope they are. They sure had an advantageous time of it searching around inside of me, a couple months ago, helping my doctor accurately diagnose my latest difficulty (as I continue to fall apart, and lose a few parts, apparently, .) It all turned out for the better.

As far as their lurking and gawking on the outside of me, in the world in general, GOOD. The homies and the hoodies certainly are not camera-shy, struttin' and a-shootin', robbing, stealing, raping, running from accidents....Did I omit anything?

Jon, who made the K-4? Do you have any 3-rail stuff left? Any recent videos around the "new" layout? Do you still have the photo of the tagged tanker car I sent you for Christmas so long ago? I think I asked this a few years ago, so sorry if it's a repeat. When you change computers or operating systems, so many things disappear although we are told the opposite.

Tramp, the K4 was made by Scott of Sunset Models. It was one of the High Iron series that were decently affordable and nicely made if you not a neurotic concerning details.
There is a small box of 3rail stuff still sitting in my attic that some kid could probably use and all my high end stuff was traded or sold.

Yes, I still have your tagged tanker! I have not got around to 2 railing it yet.

Travelled with my clothes-horse daughter to the Outlets at Gettysburg today to do a bit of post-holiday shopping. I hadn't been there since meeting Sarge for a car meet over the summer. The place was pretty dead, which makes one wonder about the state of retail in the U.S. Still, we scored a bunch of stuff and drove off happy.

As a bit of penance we decided to visit 3rd Brigade, 1st Division in early winter. It remains my favorite spot on the field, a haunted, humbling place:

In the distance one can see the marker for the 83rd Pennsylvania and 3rd Brigade commander Colonel Strong Vincent.

Visiting in winter gives one a clear view of the topography, and an appreciation for the conditions (minus the oppressive heat and the covering foliage).

Colonel Strong Vincent, commander 3rd Brigade, 1st Division, Fifth Corps:


Vincent, the son of a foundryman from Waterford, Pennsylvania, graduated from Harvard in 1859 and practiced law prior to the Civil War. At 26 he was promoted to command of 3rd Brigade just prior to the engagement at Gettysburg. Vincent deployed his brigade at the foot of the southern slope of Little Round Top, where it was fallen upon by troops of Longstreet's Corps on the second day. 20th Maine, 44th New York, 83rd Pennsylvania, and 11th Michigan Regiments comprised 3rd Brigade. Vincent was mortally hit (shot in the groin) while rallying his men to the defense of the Union line, dying five agonizing days later in a field hospital. Written history appointed Chamberlain most of the notoriety for the successful defense, but Vincent, his superior, was as much or more deserved for the action of that day.

Curiously the statue of Vincent at Gettysburg depicts him drawing a sword, but in fact Vincent never carried a sword. His preference was instead for a leather riding strop given to him by his wife.

Healey, That looks like a hard place to fight a battle and a hard place to die. But then again, any place would be a hard place to die since no matter who and how many may be around you, death is a journey each of us takes alone.

It must have been nearly unbearable for a soldier to see his comrade-in-arms shot and fall mortally wounded next to him.
