Re: Hobo Jungle
Jon, I told my students that if they wanted As then they needed to order a print from my website for educational purposes, you know, to study the artwork up close. That would get me close to the super Hudson if there weren't dozens of other greedy hands awaiting payment.

Re: Hobo Jungle
Talk about snow. Last night around midnight we had 6 inches in 3 hours. 1 mile to the east of me they had a dusting. 10 miles west of me (Lancaster and Lititz Pa you know where that's at Dirt Man) they had 12 inches. West of Lancaster they had nothing and 3 miles north of me 1-3 inches. Talk about crazy.................
...........I never seen anything like that. The local weather guys were really gittin' the shit this morning.
They said it was really wierd but it would have been like a summer thunderstorm. Some places git a lot of rain and some don't. It was crazy. Drove 1 mile to the east of me and there was nothin' man.............................

Tramp, If I didn't have the "Spring Brass Blitz" pulled on me, I'd be in for a couple of your prints already.
As it is, I'm double checking for coins in the sofa and cashing in my 12 year old aluminium beer can collection in the backyard!!

Hello All,
Family and I are departing Hanale HI tomorrow. Wet and raining now. Earlier was sunny and warm.
Still looking for Puff the magic dragon. Found a lot of hippies though. Is there a connection?

jafl, LOL!!
If you were smoking any of that "Kauai Wowee", Lord knows WHAT you were seeing, let alone looking-for!
Satellite views of that place are awesome!

Have a safe trip home. If you still think you need to look for dragons on arrival, better let your wife drive home from the airport!!
And you'd better be gracing us with some pictures down the line!

Hanalei is near to heaven, I am certain.
Descending into the valley and seeing the Taro Patches is quite a sight. The thought of it is giving me Kauai dreams.

I hope Tahiti Nui is still going strong and bringing in locals. Have not been up there in the last few trips. The poisson cru à la tahitienne is (was) a bit off, but more than a few who go there have nights they don't remember at the bar and listening to music.
Tramp, I have one of those degrees she was asking about. I choose not to use the appellation that comes with it in personal or professional life. Damn, they never taught me how to paint! Lessons in life and on the road have taught me a lot more than just university. I am certain your students are in for one hell of a good ride and I would be honored to be one of them.
One of my favorite instructors was a Russian named Dr. Vladimir Filipinko. He was an excellent mathematician and taught his partial differential equations classes with aplomb. His claim to fame was that as a professor he was a consummate actor. He somewhat resembled Errol Flynn and would sweep into class removing his sport coat in a choreographed move, hang it on a chair, and commence throwing chalk (I am older than Dirt) at his graduate students to stand and deliver proofs. There was a non personal, but healthy atmosphere of ridicule if one blundered. He would often lead us down the primrose path on some historical derivation that had failed, stop the class on a cliff hanger at the penultimate step, and expose the fallacy in the next class. We had long running arguments about who invented what. I would say Newton, Leibnitz. He would say, NO, some guy named Ostrogradsky (Остроградский) had them beat by years. I would drag out my Robert C. James Mathematics Dictionary and he would counter me with something like Istoria matematicheskogo obrasovania v SSSR. I can't read Russian, so it became a force of personality thing. I was truly challenged. He gave me "B's" for the classes I took from him. They were the only ones I received in the curriculum. When I confronted him about it, his explanation was "You are good but you don't deserve an 'A'". The grade had nothing to do with test scores. He evaluated students qualitatively, not quantitatively. I accepted that and completed the program.
Aside from the mathematics, the point is Dr. "Vladimir" was threatening, challenging, and provocative. And better entertainment than you will find in other venues. We had one hell of a good time in the classes. In graduate school, of all things. I'll never forget it and cherish the memories.
I share this with you, because as professor and instructor, you have that opportunity to mold minds and create memories that persist for years, Tramp. Go for it.

Congratulations Tramp. There are many Ph.D. graduates who cannot find jobs in their fields. You are lucky to not be one of them.
The college is so lucky to have hired you. A professor with an award from the National Academy of Design and paintings on exhibit in four museums. A professor with thirty plus years experience painting and writing, whose drawings, painting and writing somehow express the same inner self.
Your students stand to learn a lot from you. They are truly the lucky ones.
