When i buy a pack of water. Half of the bottles leak before i get it home. I started to buy a lot of it 2 weeks ago. I came home one day. Only to see the state drilling a well in the front yard. They say an MTBE plume on the move.

Hey! If we try to save the Earth by using less plastic (I can hardly wait to see how that changes car bodies, for example!) won't that mean using more paper? And we started that concern - regarding cutting down less trees - some decades ago, so are we going to return to paper straws, for example?

I saw a Info-documentary on TV last week which explained, very graphically, how the Europeans who emigrated from Europe, in particular, becoming industrious Americans, nearly completely denuded the entire continent of its huge and deep forests. Cut cut. Chop chop. Destroy destroy. Will the forests ever recover? I think not.

And now we have shat upon the oceans with whole floating-islands of plastic/Styrofoam kahkah? What's next?! Oh, we'll think of something, be assured, me buckos.

We do recycle a lot of paper and cardboard something that we were not doing then

Have you traveled in PA? PA was essentially clear cut a bit over 100 years ago. I have trees that take two people together to get their arms around.

I suspect that someone will harvest those islands as sources of raw materials and that eventually they will become contested and fought over.

Selfies? Just step in front of the garden or selected plant(s), hold the I-phone up or outward, smile or scowl, and click. Then, hit Send, etc. and post it on here. I'll bet there is not a soul here on MTJ that would not be interested in seeing Farmer Rufus at his soul-nourishing, close-to-the-earth task(s).

I have a free flip phone - I needed a phone; I have a phone.

Eventually, I will be forced to get some sort of smart phone. As long as it's still useful as a phone (and free), that will be 90% of it's use for me. If I can use it as a navigation tool for 5%, and 5% for internet radio, then I'll be happy. If not, then I'll just turn it all off.

I've watched far too many people who cannot disengage from their phone, and/or are so angry with it due to whatever. I see need to join either herd.

Rufus, we're in the same boat. I've only had my flip phone for a little over 2 years, but I've already made at least 10 calls on it and answered about 15 calls. Mine wasn't free but it was a $99 special from Verizon, (Kyocera waterproof/shockproof Mil spec), and we added it on to my wife's plan for cheap. I'll maybe move up to a smart phone when they become obsolete. The only reason I got one is just in case of an emergency. I don't even need it for GPS plots; got a Garmin Street Pilot free out of a used car a couple years ago so I'm good to go. BTW, didja hear that APPLE is done with X; movin' on to the next great $1000 + junk.

I've got a Tomtom but I also got an e-mail a few weeks ago that they were no longer supporting my life-time updates.

No, but unsurprising - got to keep moving of the competition catches and passes you. Another reason though why the 30% of folks in student debt can't pay their loans off - buying $1k phones..........

I got a iphone 6 about a month ago. Never had a cell phone before, I didn't want to pay the monthly bill and I make almost no calls. I am not one where technology comes easy. I did have a tablet and that helped.
I figured I had learned enough to go ahead and get one. I looked at all the phone companies web sites and decided I like Cricket the best. I went there and they had a special on the iphone 6 and I got the last one they had.
Thanks to the helpful guy at Cricket who got me all set up and friends I have learned it faster than I thought I would. I'm no expert but can do all the things I wanted too.
I feel like I have joined the rest of the world.
