That would seem to follow......
As the literacy rate declines, you’ll ask yourself why the quality of life continues to deteriorate in ways large and small, and in almost every instance the answer will be: because people stopped reading.

Well, if you're off to the Philipines, I guess you are covered. Have a nice time there.

Silly.....alcohol is dehydrating.....but then again those that imbibe mass-produced beer would not understand that aspect.

I'm always amazed when I see a human being running/cowering from an angry chicken or goose. Why don't they simply stop, face it down, and give it a good slap across its face, or wring its next a bit. (?) I certainly would not tolerate any attack. Am I missing some subtlety or nuance or fact about such encounters?

Possibly. Geese and swans, large waterfowl, etc. are known to cause serious injury when provoked.

Not known to me that chickens may be, just no data points; but beaks and claws exist and your eyes might be vulnerable.

I certainly would not tolerate any attack. Am I missing some subtlety or nuance or fact about such encounters?

Go put on your hoodie and mug a goose; let us all know how it works out for you.

As far as fighting back, my experience is that, when a bird attacks, it is a fight to the death for them.

One day I got tired of my rooster attacking me and kicked him in the breast bone as he ran at me.
1st kick set him back three feet. 2nd kick six feet. 3rd kick 12 feet. He attacked again so I grabbed him and locked him in the chicken coup for the rest of the day.

Next day I did not hear him coming from behind. He sunk his spurs through my Levies into the inside and and outside of my right thigh.

After treating the wounds in my leg I cut his spurs back to 1/4 inch and filed what was left to round them off.

After finding out my drake and gander could make blood blisters when they bit me, I would grab their beak when they attacked and either lock them up or just drag them around by the beak while I cleaned their coupe and filled their food and water dispensers.

Immature swans can launch coordinated attacks and as Wayne pointed out their bills are quite strong for nipping or as blunt instruments.

We were at a wetlands training session at the Kellogg bird sanctuary near Kalamazoo and they had "cracker dispensers" to feed the birds. One of the people in the class was like 4'6" tall and bought a pack of crackers. Four teenage swans swarmed her. One came up from behind and started pecking at her head while a second grabbed her wrist and started shaking it. The other two launched a frontal attack beating her with their wings. This all took place in a matter of seconds. She released the pack of crackers almost immediately and the four then went after the now broken package and started fighting over the debris. She had intended to try to feed a pair of wood ducks just off shore when the swans went postal. It sort of reminded me of "Hell's Grannies" sketch from Monty Python. I never thought I'd see a pack of juvenile delinquent swans attacking people at a bird sanctuary.
