Hobo Jungle
Hev comes strollin' into camp and sees Mitch pourin' coffee into his cup, and a small bird on a stick a couple 'o feet above the fire.
"Hey Mitch, where'd ja get the chicken?"
"It ain't a chicken, Hev, it's a grouse. Damnedest thing you ever seen. I was takin' a shortcut from town back here and I came down over the side of that hill through all that brush. Anyway, I got tangled up in the thickest clump of wild grape vines you ever seen, and I was a lookin' around tryin' to find the best way out. I'd probably stood there a full minute, and when I went to take a step this bird exploded up right in front of me and scared the livin' shit outta me. Bet my hat went two feet in'a air. He flew right up into the thick shit right in front of me, and I recovered fast enough to take a swat at 'im. Hit 'im and broke his neck. So, were havin' roast grouse. I quartered a orange I been keepin' for a few days and stuffed it inside. Only had a little seasoned salt, some paprika and salt mixed, and a little black pepper for the outside. What'd'ju get.?"
"I got three big sweet taters, and check this out. One o' those packaged little spice cakes with the raisins. I'll have a cup of that Joe".
"Git yourself one, Hev. I want'a rotate this bird. I'll lay them taters just on the outside of the coals. Be about a hour or so and we can dig in".
