Ain't feelin' like fall here yet, either. 87 yesterday, 80 today but we had a brief rain and blow this afternoon, second cold front supposed to come in tonight. We'll be in the high 50s by Friday. My kind of weather. We are startin' to get a little color in the leaves now, some of the early stuff like Sumac is already yellow, and the oaks, maples, and wild cherry is just startin' to turn.
But then again, we can enjoy an adult beverage in any kind of weather. Gomer, I'll have a very large draft in a frosted mug, please.

We just had that same storm blow through, but not the second yet. In the midst, there was a single pure beam of sunlight shining down, due west, exactly like God was shining a flashlight. It was exactly toward your direction. Did you do something beatific today?

Hey! Beers all round, Beers everywhere, beers in your beer!
Well, it's kind of like fall. Still a tad warm, but some KILLER trees starting to show themselves, it really is amazing isn't it? How they blush so intensely as winter threats. seems so beautiful a thing just to happen in the mix of whatever all this is.
So here's something you'all could help me with. I did my whole Design class this afternoon with the Dean lurking in the back like Kevorkian scrawling incesantly on his pad, students presented cool map projects and we had cool discussions of them, then I did a presentation about altering existing images, including by hand and digitally with Photoshop, and then he scurried out like a rat that just smelled a freshly despensed can of Cheez Wiz.
So I get home and there's already an email from Deano. It's this image and him asking me to "photo-shop it" and send it back to him. So what should i do to it?

Man!! I sure enjoyed drinking this stuff up at the folks house!!! I was able to stash a 12 pack in my luggage home. I savor every drop!!!

Portsmouth is a colonial era seaport town, so it goes to follow that sooner or later we'd brew an India Pale Ale as a tribute to those big, hoppy 19th century ales that made the long sea voyage from England's temperate shores, 'round the Cape of Good Hope, to the sultry climes of the faraway East Indies.
But there's another reason we brewed this beer, one that's closer to our home and hearts. Hopheads.
Ten years ago we brewed our first batch of Shoals Pale Ale, our American interpretation of the traditional British ESB (Extra Special Bitter) style. At the time, it was widely considered to be darned hoppy. However, a funny thing happened over the last decade - our Shoals Pale Ale didn't change; beer lovers did, and we started to hear more and more: "Why don't you guys make a really hoppy beer?"
You could say, then, that Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 65 IBU's, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that's not easy to find. We think they'll be quite pleased.
Our IPA is dry-hopped and unfiltered. The lees (sediment) that form
on the bottom of the bottle are a natural part of this fine ale.
