I can see San in that description.
Interesting that you should bring up John Steinbeck after one of Tramp's literary posts. I often see glimpses of John Steinbeck in Tramp's writing, yet the style is not the same at all. Like comparing our leaders to strictured bulls... not Tramp's style at all. I think what I see in common is that both authors write on the nature of being human and our struggle to identify our place in the universe.
Also interesting, perhaps only to me, is that John Steinbeck died in 1968 from nearly complete occlusion of his main coronary arteries. In 1968 coronary artery bypass was just starting to be practiced in hospitals. If he had lived in Cleveland (171 bypass surgeries in 1968), things might have turned out differently.
Like Steinbeck, I had 100% blockage of my right and left coronary arteries. In 2004 President Clinton and I were among 249,000 patients receiving coronary artery bypass grafts in the United States.

But if he had lived in Cleveland he wouldn't have been Steinbeck.
Mississippi and the South were too much a part of what made him great.
My Grandfather died in '68 after his second heart attack. Very little done
back then compared to now. With todays knowledge he would have lived.
As for me, 80% blocked LAD (left anterior decending) coronanry artery...
angioplasty and stents. A year later, 80% blockage in the RAC (right
coronary artery) ... again angioplasty and stents. By pass probable in the
future.

I'm trying to get my 1950 LE Velocette running. Put in all new studs today, feeling very fortunate that I managed to extract the old ones. New gaskets, plugs have been removed (had to grind and modify the socket). Not as exciting as Pete's Farmall, but we all have our own dreams.
