It would be just my woods-roaming luck to come across such a moment (!)
And I wouldn't have a match or a lighter (!)

You're in the woods - rub 2 sticks together,
Do not wait to strike till the iron is hot; but make it hot by striking.

That would get me two moderately hot sticks. And what would you suggest I could do with them then?

Once again, you are a man of good practical sense.
Yet, how 'bout if I just stay in the car. Or better yet, I could not leave the house and simply visit the area via "StreetLevel View" on Google.

You could, but then you'd be missing life (known to be useful to experience...) and then also emulating the youngest generation that is self-isolating themselves from all contact except by their phones.

Hence why I keep finding myself here and getting out of the car and exploring, bears, coyotes, bison, and wild boar notwithstanding. There is absolutely nothing quite like stepping into this forest. I have taken such hikes since I was a boy walking the hills around Pittsburgh, not exactly wilderness, but invigorating, nonetheless.

Do continue doing so while it remains possible to you.

I'm planning on taking just such an adventure this Spring, and perhaps one into Pennsylvania, too. The spirit is willing; we'll see if the flesh is , too.

Re: For Murph re: Bear Interactions
ABCNews: Something of an update for me since my last posting on this subject, on January 9:
On Sunday, in Montana, 30mi south of Ennis, a 17yr old boy was attacked by a Grizzly. At first, the bear pinned him up against an tree; then let him drop to the ground. He tried to crawl away to a space between two trees but the bear followed him closely, quickly holding him face-down ion the ground. The boy was able to reach into his backpack and grab hold of his bear spray, giving the bear a face-full. The bear left.
This renews my faith in a lot of things, and does so just in the nick-of-time as I contemplate whether to make one of my traditional sojourns to Upstate NY this Spring or Summer, returning to Brake Hill Road forest, just outside Homer, NY.
