It looks like we are treated , in the left foreground, to a real-life action view of one of the earliest "horseless carriages" with its driver's hand on the "steering stick" ( I don't know what it's called) pulling away from the curb, it seems. Vehicles being pulled by horses are included in the street-scape. I've never seen anything like that before. Very nice historical moment to enjoy.

Oh, yes, that is an interesting point to make. I knew there was something I was missing in my reaction to that scene, so I can see your point clearly.

Do you suppose those horse-powered vehicles are giving the automobile wide-berth?

I wonder if roads at that time were not yet restricted to traffic flow being confined to one side of the roadway or the other for direction of movement. Or maybe that's a one way street (?)

I just spent about 10 minutes perusing the Eldred Main Street. I could not find any building seen in the photo. I wouldn't know it was the same town. It certainly has changed a lot during the last 110 years or so.

My grandfather told me that in the nineteen teens and twenties there were labor (day) parades in which he participated.
Apparently they stopped with the coming of The Depression. I really thought I could hear the capitalization when people
in my home area spoke of it. It didn't end until WW II started and all factories and mines reopened.

They do in Greencastle; last one was in Aug of 2016. Have not been back for one in a few decades.....
