That diorama is going to be singular out of the whole class - it has class. It speaks of an entire history far beyond the five figures arranged there, pointing to and telling a story a whole lot bigger. It is a metaphorical piece, well designed and exceptionally well executed, IMHO.

P.S. And the ground-cover is perfect with that rock backdrop.

Yeah, you might need to...those spear-points look sharp.

Nice job on the figures BTW.

Thank you for the kind words on the school project! I just need to proof read my sons report on the battle of Thermopylae and we should be good to go!

Thinking maybe that the specific target of this registration might be DRONES and not so much conventional style planes.

I haven't heard about this registration crap nor from whom it emanates but if its the usual mob they need to register too since a bigger bunch of drones you'll never find!

That Sparta diorama is bloody excellent for imagination and execution.

Here is the current version of the rule:

https://www.faa.gov/news/updates/media/20151213_IFR.pdf

It is written in impenetrable governmentese but clearly includes all model aircraft over .55lbs. I have not been able to find the actual registration site but did see that the registration has to be renewed every 3 years. Wether the registration is $5 per person or $5 per model is not clear. The rule seems to require the make, model and serial number of the model so you may not be able to properly fill it out for a plans built rubber powered model which would put you in violation while giving your name, address and e-mail to the FAA.

That may be the point.

Model aviation has coexisted with full size aircraft since before WW1 without this type of individual oversight.
You begin flying with a full bag of luck and an empty bag for experience. The object is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck.

This seems to me to be the same type of stuff that gun owners and buyers have shown concern about for some time.
As I understand it, it is possible right now to trace and control many modern autos.
I must now go to the doctor more often to renew prescriptions than the once a year I once did.
All of the doctors records are now in what I suppose is a national data base.

I never thought I would be a person that would see a plot in all of this [conspiracy theory] to control the general population.

Yes, but you didn't have people trying to shoot them out of the sky in congested neighborhoods until recently. The FAA has come up with a way to limit such dangerous use of firearms with this new registration requirement.

And don't think registering your toy airplane will make it legal to fly.

Q45. May I operate my toy airplane once I register?
A. Completion of the registration process does not provide authorization to operate your toy airplane. Please refer to http://www.faa.gov/uas/faq for requirements pertaining to operating authorization.
Reference: http://www.faa.gov/uas/registration/faqs/#mou

The referred to site does not address "operating authorization" for toy aircraft, only for news media and commercial operation of unmanned aircraft systems.

• There is a $5 fee to register, which is waived if you register within the first 30 days.
• You will not be required to register every aircraft individually. You only need to register yourself and can affix one registration number to all your aircraft.
• The FAA plans to launch the online registration website on Monday, December 21. (Three more days.)

Background on the FAA Interpretative Rule of Section 336
On June 23, 2014, the FAA released its “Interpretation of the Special Rule for Model Aircraft,” (referred to as the “Interpretive Rule”), which imposed new restrictions on the use of model aircraft in direct contradiction to Section 336 and against the intent of Congress. The Interpretive Rule expands the definition of aircraft to include model aircraft, with which AMA disagrees. AMA has filed a petition to overturn the Interpretive Rule, which is still the subject of pending litigation.

Hold Off On Registering Model Aircraft
The AMA Executive Council is considering all legal and political remedies to address this issue.
