Re: Chooch Ultra Scale GN Pullmans

This series of PSC was close - just one generation from the arch window wood cars. I have a few of these in my collection; could never bring myself to paint them. https://uniim1.shutterfly.com/render/00-PNsoTmjg5ERwYdyJK2nnTU4PbJCADm4kNk3Vd5RrK2QmaDsR83wiJtRc2hOXhntyaAUrgnwgvQnZ_1RWb7NZPA?cn=THISLI...

Re: Chooch Ultra Scale GN Pullmans

I would love to have coaches from that era, but I must wait for brass. It will be a long wait; Scott Mann told me they decided there were just too many variants that would scatter the market. My $ would go for the wood Sunset Limited cars, done in brass. I wish you luck - seems like a worthwhile en...

Chooch Ultra Scale GN Pullmans

Seems like forever ago I purchased one of these 80 foot wooden Pullman, pre-heavyweight kits headed up by Rich Miller and his team in the 1980s. I happened on a #616 kit which seems was part of a Great Northern Pullman train - maybe up to twenty cars (#611 to 620A)!?! It is a delightful headache of ...

Re: Any Walthers O 933-4889 Milwaukee Road Skytop Lounge out there?

I do not know why these cars absolutely amaze me, as I am not particularly a fan of the Milw Rd. Is it the maroon and orange? The name? The flawless streamlining? I just happened to pick up half a dozen cars for a deal (wasn't looking for them at all, but could not pass the offer) to add to my pile....

Re: Any Walthers O 933-4889 Milwaukee Road Skytop Lounge out there?

I have one that was given to me by Maroon. I am trying to keep it pristine while I explore ways to get a metal observation end. As far as I know, all the ends are plastic. This one is a lot like a model airplane cockpit. Sunset made a beauty. I could lust after one of those, but my hobby is buildin...

Any Walthers O 933-4889 Milwaukee Road Skytop Lounge out there?

Gents,
Anyone have one buried in a closet somewhere and is re-thinking getting around to masking and painting the platic curved "Skytop" rear end? Am considering buying one for a fair price as I have reached, perhaps, the other end of the spectrum.
Thanks!

Beautiful engine. A three unit train with Wasatch cars would put a kid thru college.

Re: Painting Classic Passenger Cars

Bob,
What fine-line pens do you use exactly (brand and size)? Do they fill with ink or paint?
Thanks

Stout Auctions Results - Eye openers!

I followed the Stout auction on and off today, with perchance the slightest intent to raise my paddle. Luckily for my stuffed closets, I did not get the chance. O scale 2 rail, I concluded, is quite healthy. Lots more interest out there than I can gauge from my very narrow neck of the O2R woods. Fin...

Re: Painting Classic Passenger Cars

Thanks to your recommendation, I devoured the dozen or so reels on the ‘tube by Ian Rathbone. The first several were familiar themes on airbrushing, cleaning brass and paint booths, but after then it was magic, seeing the actual techniques for precise striping with curved and ornate corner flairs. H...

Re: Painting Classic Passenger Cars

Try Abebooks at http://www.abebooks.com (used to be American Book Exchange). A copy can be had for under $50. Excellent. thanks for the link. If I could only peel myself away from the Mr. Rathbone’s videos I would get to ordering it immediately. His artistry is exemplary. I have several modeling bo...

Re: Painting Classic Passenger Cars

This one is going to have a lot of variety, as everyone has their favourite techniques. Trucolor is good stuff. It likes a tooth (a grit-blasted surface or a good primer) and surface cleanliness is required. I like Mr Hobby primers, something I got from the plastic modeller crowd. Trucolor is delig...

Painting Classic Passenger Cars

Fellow O’s, I am about to embark on some passenger car build and paint. I plan to paint some classic schemes involving multi color and striping of the steam to diesel era in both heavy and light weight cars (think Missouri Pacific Eagle colors, and GM&O Alton Ltd two tone red/maroon with plenty ...

Re: Kudos

I still have a short, hand written letter from Bob Turner from 30+ years ago, stored with a Kasiner Observation kit. I never got the opportunity to visit with Bob in person, but I had been able to buy things from him on and off over the years. One day I happen to be chatting with him on the phone an...
